This 2026 Sonhoras brings some of the most current proposals from the European sound-poetry scene to the city. The series continues with a first-rate guest whom Sonhoras published in its VOXXX poetry LP collection.
Cia Rinne grew up in Germany. She studied philosophy, history and languages in Frankfurt, Athens and later in Helsingfors (Helsinki, Finland), where she completed her philosophy studies with a Master of Arts.
Her artistic practice focuses mainly on visual and conceptual poetry, but also on sonorities, performance and installations. In her minimalist, experimental texts—written in several languages, including English, German and French—she reduces complex linguistic and philosophical questions to sonic quintessences. Cia Rinne’s work is influenced by Fluxus artists such as Tomas Schmit and Arthur Køpcke, by Dadaism and by Moscow conceptualists Lev Rubinstein and Ilja Kabakov. Musically, she aligns with the traditions of Steve Reich and John Cage.
Her textual and sound works have been widely exhibited, including at the International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York and at the Grimmuseum in Berlin. Her installation the letter i see was awarded by the Kumu Art Museum in Tallinn as part of the 16th Tallinn Print Triennial. In Germany Cia Rinne became especially known for her documentary book Die Romareisen, published together with photographer Joakim Eskildsen. Works by her are part of the collections of the Kumu Art Museum (Tallinn), the Artist Book Collection of the Museum of Modern Art (New York), and the Artist Book Collection of the „Bibliothek Richardsstraße“ (Richardsgatans bibliotek / Rikhardinkadun kirjasto) in Helsingfors.
