In this edition of Jaquer Matter, we present the album Substitute by XIWIRE alongside the label Fragmenta, which performed an extended live set. The event opened with PKT delivering a spoken-word set.
Hailing from Caracas, Venezuela, XIWIRE ventures into electronic music production through the practice of livecoding, generating music through code written live. A naturally restless mind, he programs his own synthesizers and production tools, which he combines with drum machines and modular synthesizers. His sound ties together various inspirations, including underground Internet music, metal, and rave music, seeking to blend broken rhythms, abrasive textures, and hopeful arpeggios, in a constant flirtation with noise.
“Substitute” is the culmination of five years of musical exploration in electronics undertaken as an escape from himself. Through a thread of live improvisations recorded directly from machines, it is an attempt to face failure with dignity, to communicate without using words, and to shuffle the possibility of hope in dark moments. Fragile synthesizers held up by layers of noise, wandering arpeggiators, and broken rhythms flirt with the threshold between the abrasive and the ethereal. Synthetic without shame, confessional for those who wish to understand it.
